Shabbat Shalom Eve!

Before we go on, I would like to share something with you. Below is a prayer from one of my favorite Shabbat books. I like to pick out something to meditate on during the day, to bring to the Shabbat table for all to enjoy.

This morning I found this one and I would like to share it with you, it goes like this:

Prayer for Women after Lighting the Candles from 'The Miracle of the Seventh Day' by Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz.

May it be your will, O YHVH Elohim and Elohim of my fathers, to show grace to me (and to my husband and to my children and to my father and mother) and to all those close to me, and grant me and all Israel a good and long life.

And remember us for goodness and for blessing, and visit us with salvation and mercy, and bless us with great blessing, and bring peace to our homes, and let your Shekhinah rest among us. And allow us to raise wise and understanding children, who love and fear Elohim – offspring of truth, a holy seed, who will be attached to Elohim and enlightened the entire world with Torah and with good deeds, and labor in the service of the Creator.

Heed my petition at this hour, through the merit of Sarah, Rivkah, Rahel, Leah, our mothers. And give light to our candle so that it may not be extinguished forever, and show us the light of your face, and let us be saved.

Amen.

Today, don’t forget to set your table for Shabbat! Set it early so the whole family will see the table and begin to prepare for Shabbat.

Put out a tablecloth and some decorations. Then put your menorah to the south and your bread to the north to symbolize how it was in the Temple. If you don’t have a tablecloth and would like one, you can always use a sheet – it looks just as nice! You can gather wildflowers or uses grasses for your centerpiece. I have shared a picture, as how I set it today for you to see.

Remember to also start your Challah bread!
You can make it in your bread machine while you are doing other things that you need to do. If you don't have one, you can buy your bread at Publix or you can make it by hand.  Here is a recipe that I use for my machine that I got from online.Search for Bread Machine Challah if you want to find it on line.

Ingredients:

1 Cup of Warm Water
  4 Tablespoons of Oil
  2 Eggs
  1 Teaspoon of Salt
  4 ½ Cups of Flour
  2/3 cups of Sugar
  3 Teaspoons of Yeast

Preperation:

1.    Place all ingredients in order into the basket of the machine. Make a well of the dry in ingredients before putting in the yeast.

2.    Close the bread machine door and set it on the dough setting and walk away for about an hour and a half. (1 hour, 30 minutes or longer depending on the weather. I’ve had to wait 4 hours some days!)

3.    When the dough is ready, divide dough into two loaves. For a traditional look, you can braid each loaf.

4.    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F

5.    Brush the top of the challah with egg yoke.

6.    Bake it at 350 for approx. 30 minutes.

7.    To check if it challah is done, gently knock on the bottom of it and if you hear a hollow sound then the challah is ready.

Going back to yesterday’s post, I promised a menu for Rosh
Hashanah!

I am using a dinner/buffet plan  from ‘The Gourmet Jewish Cookbook’ by Judy Zeidler.

Going by Judy’s suggestion, here is planning for ten guests. She feels 8-10 people over for an evening is just about right to enjoy each person.

Sit Down Dinner
Festive Honey Challah
Warm Green Bean Salad
Roasted Meat with Vegetables
Fabulous Apple Charlotte

Here is the menu for a Rosh Hashanah Buffet
Mini Challahs
Marinated Vegetable Platter
Sliced Roast Beef with 2  sauces
              Red Pepper-Basil Sauce
              Mustard-Basil Sauce
Pomogrante Ice
Sesame-Honey Thins

Suggested Beverages

Dinner:
Pinot Noir Wine or Bordeaux Wine

Buffet:
          Chardonnay Wine or Blush Wine

Most of  these recipe can be found on line. It can be fun to have guest over to celebrate and to have fellowship. Usually Rosh Hashanah is celebrated two days that is to make sure we don't miss the day. So you can use one of the two days to have a special dinner either just with family or invited guests. Get out that silverware and enjoy!

Shabbat Shalom dont forget to fellowship with your community.

Fall Feasts- Feast of Trumpets    Thursday August 22,2013   Elul 16, 5773

The Feast of Trumpets:

This feast starts the fall feasts.

In leviticus 23: 24 we have a commandment to observe this feast.

It is also interesting that these feasts are yet to be fulfilled. The spring feast were fulfilled during Yeshua first coming and we believe the fall feast will fulfill his second coming.  So it may be fulfilled something like this..when we hear the final trumpet and then the books are opened and a day of judgement begins and after that He comes to tabernacle with His bride.
The feast are known as rehearsals  We rehearse these feasts because when these future events happen we will know what to do. This why it is also important to include your children as much as possible as they may be the ones who will be part of the fulfillment. A scripture in 1st Corinthians speaks of this anticipated event.
1Cr 15:52   In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump:  for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. Also the one in the picture 1 Thess 4:16

This is why we watch for the new moon at this time so intently. Those watching for us in Israel make a special effort at this time. So just like we don't know what day or hour we will see the new moon, so it is when the trumpet of the day of Yah will sound. So we need to be ready.. get prepared. When this feast is fulfilled it may be just as Yeshua stated in Matthew 24: 37-42.

37  But as the days of Noe [were], so shall also the coming of  the Son of man be. 38  For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away;  so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 40  Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. 41 Two [women shall be] grinding at the mill; the one shall be  taken, and the other left. 42  Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Master doth come.

Before the feast days in our home we practice the sounds of the shofar so we can distinguish the sounds. You can find examples of these sounds on the internet. They are the Teruah  Shevarim, the Tekiah and the Tekiah Gadol. In our home we blow the sofar each day between the feast of trumpets and Yom Kippur and speak of a reason why it is blown.   I have a page for each day and this in my Feast of Trumpets  book so it is ready each year just to put on the table. This helps us get ready forYom Kippur. We let the children blow the shofar so they can learn how to make  the different sounds.

It is time for us to say "Wake up o sleeper"

This is the time to have a special meal with some traditional foods such as apples and honey for a sweet new year. ( Tomorrow I plan on sharing a traditions meal plan) A time for family gathering so plan a nice dinner on the table with homemade decorations. We make round Hallah bread this time of year to celebrate the King of the Universe. The akeida of Isaac ( the binding of Isaac) story is read so have a discussion with your family about the story. You can make a crown of thorns from plants in the garden to represent the thicket the ram was caught in and also the crown of thorns that His Lamb wore during the crucifixion  Then you can put a shofar in the middle  and make it a centerpiece or table decoration for conversation and a reminder of the events during this time.

Yom Turah is also called the feast of trumpets and/or Rosh Hashanah

Also the feast is:
  • The Kings of Israel and Judah counted the years they reign by this date
  • Jewish calendar starts at this time.
  • The civil year begins. · This new year will be the year 5774.
  • When the temple was in place an offering is made by fire.
  • The book of life is opened
  • The shofar blast is known to call us to repentance.

Prophetic:
  • The Lamb opens the seventh seal and the 7 trumpets begin. Revelation chapter 8
  • Messiah comes in a cloud with Sharp sword and Iron septer Rev 14: and Chapter 19:15

“The days of awe"  come right after this feast,  is what we call the time between the Feast of Trumpets and Yom Kippur. During these ten days it is thought that the books of life are opened in heaven and it is during this time we seek forgiveness by soul searching and meditating on the sin in our lives, to get it out and confess it to our Elohim. Now we should do this on a regular basis as Yeshua blood is there to wash us clean. But some sin has to be dealt with as we have difficulty recognizing it as such. So during this time we ask Yah to reveal to us our sin so we can ask him to heal us and make us whole. This is a very serious time so take advantage of it as it can be true soul healing experience.

Here is a scripture from Revelation telling about the books.:

Rev 20:11-15  11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from  whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and  there was found no place for  them. 12  And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before Elohim; and  the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is [the book] of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13  And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and  hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man  according to their works. 14  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is  the second death 15  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was  cast into the lake of fire.

So celebrate and start traditions in your home to rehearse and demonstrate the meaning of the feasts. If you are new to this I suggest you get a guide to celebrating the feasts such as the one I mentioned in yesterdays post. Just try it and don't worry about getting it right because experience is a good teacher. Yah will lead and guide us as we try to follow his ways.

The Fall Feasts

This post is from our bible study on Tuesday August 20th, 2013. We covered more but I am saving to share over the next few days.

Pro 31:27        She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

As this scripture tells us we are going to need a little planning ( well maybe a lot) to make a successful feast with days full of love, fun, and spiritual growth. It has been my experience during the time of celebrating the feasts are times of intense spiritual experiences. If we are not at least somewhat prepared your time is going to be spent dealing with issues that arise out of general items such as I forgot this, what are we supposed to do on this day, did I bring my toothbrush? etc. What my goal each year is to learn what I need to do next time to make it run more smooth and this is what I want to encourage you to do. I want to share some ideas with you and if you would like to respond with some of your own that would be great.

Excitement is in the air as we are growing close to the fall feast.
Sometimes just taking time to plan makes all the difference. What helps me is to have a fall feast planning book that I use from year to year. We should already be in the planning stage. To work together to create a timeline for preparations both physical and spiritual. We can use this as a tool now and for future celebration of the feasts.

When we plan a special event we and our families get so much more out of it. Let’s work on this year to make it a special event. I know that some of you are very involved with Sukkot and I am praying for you. This can be a very tiring time so take time to rest. If you plan ahead and break up preparations over several days you will not feel so exhausted. In the early days it was not unusual for me to experience some depression or even get sick after the feasts just because I wore myself out. I also learned to take the 9th day to help clean up at the Shul grounds and take that day to pack up slowly and have then plan one more day at home to put every thing away. Below are my planning books for each of the fall feasts.

Here is one of my favorite feast day books. I love this book. If you like you can preview it on amazon.

Getting ready to camp with the family. It is a time to learn how to prepare to travel and to be with others in a group. A lady last year called our hut a tent of testimony. And others have tents of testimony as well. Each year we learn something new.

So over the next few days  I will give an overview of the feasts to include some of the prophetic aspects and share some traditions my family has come to cherish. I will also be prompting you on some to do items as well.

I want to encourage us to take time today to pray ( to intercede on someones behalf) as I encourage myself as well. Most of us our days start off very quickly with many things to do.

But we need to practice praying for ourselves, our family, our congregational leaders, our friends, our busineses etc.

This scripture means a lot to me :
Luke 11: 1 Once Yeshua was  in a certain place praying. As he finished, one of his disciples came to him and  said, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” NLT

Then he gives us his prayer and then he tells us in verse  9 of chapter 11 of Luke.

9  “And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will  receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the  door will be opened
.NLT

I believe one thing here he is telling us, is that we need to practice prayer just like any other art or discipline. We need to know how to call on our Father when we need him. Prayer time is that time when you can escape from this world and enter his. It is a time of refreshing from this world that we can spend in his loving and merciful presence. So lets keep learning how to ask and knock by developing a relationship with our heavenly Father by prayer.

Prayer is one of the seven branches of that tree that its roots run deep, that as followers of Elohim we need daily in our life.

Shabbat Shalom

Also David has written a song to this scripture that is really great!
